In late 2014, Artifact Lighting was provided with our first opportunity to work closely with a client offering a lighting design service for The Wool House in Southampton. The grade 1 listed building was being converted to a brew house/restaurant, known as The Dancing Man Brewery, for which we supplied all of the lighting to match the Gothic industrial theme that the client had requested.
For this project we created a bespoke filament bulb chandelier that hangs above the grand spiral staircase standing in the centre of the building. This fixture provides a warm glow that reflects the earthy tones of the wooden beams and contributes to the friendly environment.
We also sourced a variety of industrial pendant lighting for the brewery and provided them with our stocked Copper Coolicon Pendants to light the bar, adapting them to meet insulation requirements.
Despite the renovations, the history of the building remains intact as the original stone walls and ceiling beams are complemented by the exposed bulbs and industrial shades that have an antique quality to them reflecting the seemingly unchanging aesthetic of the building.
The Dancing Man Brewery was recently the winner of Solent Design Awards 2016 People’s Choice Award. The unique interior by Knight Architectural Design featuring Artifact Lighting is now a popular destination in Southampton, drawing in visitors with its welcoming atmosphere.
